Hydrothermal Liquefaction Explainer
Metro Vancouver is installing new technology at the Annacis Island Wastewater Treatment Plant with the power to turn liquid waste into jet fuel!
It’s called hydrothermal liquefaction (or HTL for short), and it creates high-quality, low- carbon, renewable fuel that can be used in airplanes, container ships, trains and trucks.
Metro Vancouver’s HTL project will not only reduce the amount of biosolids that we will need to apply to land, it also provides a circular approach to creating fuel from the carbon that is already circulating in our environment. Unlike fossil fuels, using the bio-crude does not change the level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
Globally, hydrothermal liquefaction promises huge benefits for wastewater management, transportation, and the fight against climate change. And Metro Vancouver is leading the way, with the world’s first scaled-up facility using municipal wastewater to create biocrude.
Metro Vancouver is a diverse organization that plans for and delivers regional utility services, including water, sewers and wastewater treatment, and solid waste management. It also regulates air quality, plans for urban growth, manages a regional parks system, provides affordable housing, and serves as a regional federation. The organization is a federation of 21 municipalities, one electoral area, and one treaty First Nation located in the region of the same name. The organization is governed by a Board of Directors of elected officials from each member jurisdiction. www.metrovancouver.org

My father used to be the president of ASPE in Vancouver. Yes this stuff is boring but without it Vancouver wouldn't exist. Think of Castles in midevile times with no well. He designed alot of the hospital plumbing systems in western Canada in the late 70s till mmid 90s. The people in the shadows that make your life livable. Most never know their names or realize how important this is till it's no longer working. I remember my father showing me the diagram of Vancouver's water supply and even in the 80s he told me it was well classified. Wars and lost over food and water supply. That simple.

"Construction is well underway" LOL what a joke 5 years later in March/2024 as I write this. Anyone who lives in North Vancouver and drives by the site has seen the total catastrophe that sits there now. The entire project has been stopped due to massive lawsuits between the contractor and the city and governments. Nobody seems to know what the hell is going on. Meanwhile all that huge site with the massive towers of exposed steel construction rebar waiting for concrete, are all rusting away. Billions of taxpayer dollars have been literally flushed down the toilet. What a disaster!

I am a guy and have a walk in closet. I am a hoarder of clothes and haven’t disposed any of them yet. Some are really old from 10 years ago and somewhat damage but I use them for sleep or house wear. I’m trying to be more intentional when purchasing more clothes because I don’t really need it!

Several incorrect statements made. 1. #1 greenhouse gas is, in fact, water vapor, not CO². #2. Vehicle emissions depend on ALL vehicle having rhe same emissions, where in reality, emissions in the West, especially the US have dropped sharply. Though, China & India and the majority of the third world are exempt from the various treaties. 4. Historically climate change vision s normal function of Earth. We are coming out if an Ice Age and, most likely soon entering another. This has occurred several times over the past millions of years. Suggest reading other than current propaganda and read the real science of 100 yrs ago
